So you’re lucky enough to be blessed with twins, or your ‘stupid’ enough to be having another baby before your first baby has started school – either way you’re going to need a double stroller that will accommodate both of your children.
I would loooove to have twins!
I have lots of friends who have twins and they are great fun, even if their names do become one long name EmmaClaire because you can’t tell them apart! But we don’t have any twins in our family, so my next best option is to have my children very close together.
I have 4 (yes 4 and I still want more) children. the first 3 are older, then my husband of 21 years (yes we were childhood sweethearts) decided we should have another baby. She is now 6 months old and we are trying for our next one. This will be the first time as a mum that I will have 2 children needing a stroller at the same time, I always waited until my older child was at school before I had another child.
If you have twins then a double stroller is easy to buy as they are the same age so will progress and grow at the same rate. even if you only have a year between each baby, it doesn’t seem much but they will be at totally different stages in their lives.
I have asked my friends who have this sort of age gap with their children all sorts of questions and advice for once I have another baby. one of the big questions is which is the best double stroller and the most common answer is the Contours Options Tandem Stroller, which by the way comes in the best ruby red colour ever!
This is a light weight stroller, even with both seats in and it is a tandem stroller which means one behind the other, so easy to fit through doors and crowded shopping isles rather than being really wide!
It has stadium style seats, one slightly higher than the other, so that when your children get older they can both see in front of them.
I know there are some strollers out there that have the baby or smaller child sat underneath and behind the first child. I personally don’t like this arrangement, all I keep thinking when I see these is that poor kid is spending most of his time staring at his brothers butt!
The contours stroller has an adapter so that you can fit an infant (newborn) child seat. this will fit most models on the market, so you don’t need to buy a whole travel system just the child seat you like. there is also an option to buy a second adapter so that if you have twins, or a small (prem) baby you can fit both infant seats into the contours frame.
At the moment I am still putting my daughter in her infant seat then into the stroller as I bought a complete travel system, and the draw back with the one I have is that the only way to have her facing me is to have her in the car seat, but with the contours tandem stroller you can position the seats in 4 different facing positions so both children looking forward, both looking back at you (my favourite, I love watching their faces as they notice more of the world around them) one looking forward and one looking back, and a great one for twins, both facing each other, you can just imagine them plotting their next moves like this!
As these seats can change positions they can also change reclining positions so if your baby falls asleep while you’re out you can just tip them back in their seat, without waking them up.
This is ideal as sometimes when they fall asleep in the strollers their heads fall forward because the muscles relax, this then puts a strain on their necks, or could cause issues with their breathing.
Both seats have the option of sun canopy’s , which are independent to each other so you can angle them just right to shield your baby from the harsh rays of the sun and the leg rest on the seats (not infant seats) also have 3 positions for resting their legs.
Another must have item for a good stroller is a shopping basket and the Contours Tandem comes with an extra large storage basket, just what you need once your family starts growing and eating out of house and home!
Something else to consider, unless you live in a mansion (I don’t!) is how small the stroller folds down.
By small I mean
- is it compact once folded?
- does it stand up when folded? or
- do I have to lay it flat once folded?
You need to know these things before you buy a stroller.
If you have a small cupboard or hallway to store the stroller in then you want to make sure it fits once folded.
If you do live in a mansion then I guess this isn’t an issue as you can just store it unfolded lol!
Likewise will it fit into the trunk (boot) of your car?
Unless you’re one of those super fit mums who walk everywhere you’re going to want to put it in a car sometimes.
The Contours Tandem has a convenient trigger which gives you a compact fold and if you take the seats out it will store even smaller.
After listening to my friends, and googling a few pictures of the contours stroller (I’ve added some on this page) I have decided that this is the one I am going to get once I have another baby.
I was mostly sold on what my friends said about the stroller and the price is good as well, but really I just want a bright red stroller!
